My name is Stephanie, I'm 18, and I've only been into photography for about 2 years. I am in no way an expert, and I'm always looking for tips and ideas. :]

My photos are all 100% MINE, and are not allowed to be used, reproduced or copied in any way shape or form.

Any of the jewelery in my gallery is most likely made by me, and it IS all for sale. They're my creations, and I intend to keep it that way.

Life 13: Ignorance is bliss?

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 8:08 PM
I've come to realize that the majority of the population is incredibly stupid and ignorant. In one of my classes today, we were talking about Africa and how some villages don't have any water. Some kid in the back of the class decides to put in his two cents and say, "Well, we have water and wells, how come they can't do it?" to which my teacher replied, "It's all about poverty." Some people just don't get it.

Another thing that REALLY bothers me to no end is when people use the word "retard" or "retarded" to describe something that isn't appealing, or stupid. The fact that you can't think of a different word to describe something that isn't to your liking proves your ignorance to a word that affects many people and families, including my own. I've worked with kids with intellectual disabilities for about a year now, and you have no idea how hurtful it is when someone uses the word "retard" or "retarded" around them. It IS a hurtful word, and it sickens me when I hear people using it like any other normal word. I tried making at least one of my classes aware about the effects of this word last year in high school, but no one listened: I even asked my closest friends to stop using the word, and THEY didn't listen. I feel my heart sink when someone says it, and I wish people would just realize that words DO hurt.
It hurts me even more when shows on TV use that word in a script and then don't bleep it out.
